What's the math in this game?

This game helps children match number words to numerals and quantities. When asked, "Do you have any twos?," children hear the number word "two" and scan their cards for a "2" or a card with two shapes. Ask children how they knew that they did or didn't have a matching card. For an extra challenge, ask what would need to happen for a card to be a match. For example, "You don't have a three, but you have a two. What would you need to add to your two to make it a match? How do you know?"
